Consecrated and Devoted to the Lord
Scripture Reference Joshua 7
After experiencing a miraculous victory over Jericho, Israel suffered a discouraging defeat because of one man’s sin. Achan chose to ignore the Lord’s directive to consecrate everything in Jericho over to God and instead took some of the treasures and hid them in his tent.
Achan’s sin brought trouble on the nation and ultimately on himself and his family. Sin never occurs in a vacuum, it always has consequences, consequences that can be very far-reaching. Obedience to God brings with it tremendous blessings that will also be far-reaching! Better to consecrate the first fruits of what God has given to us unto the Lord than to hoard it all for ourselves and live under judgment.
