Scripture: Exodus 14 10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Meditation: Fear is your greatest weakness. Fear causes you to doubt God and to question the Lord’s provision for your life. It is not by accident that the Lord tells us to, “Fear not” ,365 times in His Word, once for each day of the year!
– The deliverance God gave to Israel through the manifestations of His mighty miracles stands juxtaposed to the Israelites fear of the Egyptian army. Why do I say that? Ten times God demonstrated His sovereign power over pharaoh and over pharaoh’s army as He poured out His judgments upon the would be, “god”!
– Like Satan, pharaoh was a defeated foe! Yes, he was still able to roar, but God had knocked the lion’s teeth down his throat! Psalm 3 says, 6 I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. 7 Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.”
– What I am saying here is that Israel had no reason whatsoever to be afraid! Psalm 56 says,
11 in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?” Our fears are unwarranted! Isaiah 26: 3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.4 Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”
– And you know what? Our fears are unwarranted as well! By taking their eyes off the Lord, the people of God were possessed by fear to the point of believing their lives were already forfeit! Moses kept his gaze firmly fixed upon the Lord! Like David juxtaposed with the remainder of the Israelite army who trembled with fear over Goliath’s taunts, that which separates the fearful from the courageous is FAITH! Fear gives up, but faith looks up! Fear runs and hides but faith runs toward the battle line! Hear these words and believe; “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”! Choose to believe! Amen!
