Scripture: Exodus 14 15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.” 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea. 24 During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. 25 He jammed the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt.”
Meditation: Instead of crying out to God in our fear we should choose to trust God and practice moving forward by faith!
– God led Moses to the shores of the Red Sea and in spite of the attacking army Moses professed faith that God would deliver them! Israel was crying out to God in panic but God called for an act of faith! The disciples also panicked over the tossing of the sea of Galilee and woke Jesus crying out to him in their fear lest they drown. The same God who asked Moses, “Why are you crying out to me?” also asked the disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”, Mark 4:40. What’s the Life Lesson here? God is the Author of life and God is with us no matter how frightening things might become, and therefore we should always strive to exercise faith in every situation! The One who brought you to it is the One who will lead you through it!
– Why do we fret so much? Why is it we run to and fro in our panicked mania instead of heeding the word of God which tells us, “Be still and know that I am God, Psalm 46:10! God goes on to tell us in that same psalm, “I will be exalted among the nations and I will be exalted in all the earth”! And may I say for the record, God does not need your help to fulfill this! Jesus said, “I will build my church”! Not you, not me, but Christ! What I am saying is that our duty and service to the Lord is to BELIEVE! And that one simple solitary thing is perhaps the most difficult thing for us to learn to do.
– By faith Moses raised the staff over the waters and God parted them! Did you hear that?! Moses didn’t part the water, God did that! Moses acted in obedience but the work was the work of God! In other words, “Don’t just do something; stand there and choose to believe!” And you will see that your salvation, my salvation, and the world’s salvation is only something God can do! Our duty is to move forward by faith!
