Scripture: Exodus 17 10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
Meditation: The intercessor in prayer must hold on to the altar of the Lord and persevere in prayer as long as the battle continues. Do not be discouraged if the battle is not quickly or easily won. God has called you to pray in faith therefore, drive doubt from your heart and hold on by faith unwilling to let go until the Lord blesses you.
– The call to intercessory prayer is not for the faint of heart. In order for Moses to prevail in prayer for the Israelites, he had to keep his hands held high above his head while holding onto the staff of God as a visible sign to those engaged in the battle of unwavering faith in the Lord! Even as his arms ached with pain from the strain of being held high for hours, when his arms dropped from fatigue, Moses’ brother Aaron and Hur lifted his arms up and aided him in his vigil.
– Think of what that meant to those who fought! For the children of God, it meant nothing less than God’s presence and provision of victory! For the enemy it meant that the same God who had utterly defeated the Egyptian army, the most powerful army in the world at that time, was fighting for Israel and against them!
– But it was more than merely symbolic. Our prayers of intercession today as they were then, are not merely symbolic, they have divine power to demolish the devil’s strongholds! The man or woman of prayer is called by God to engage in the most crucial battle known to man. While your loved one battles cancer you can intercede in prayer! While powers and principalities of this present darkness work to destroy faith, eradicate morality, and deceive and destroy lives; the prayer warrior falls to his/her knees, cries out to God in the name of Jesus, takes captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ, and holds on by faith until the victory is won!
– Joshua and his army needed the prayers of Moses, the physician battling cancer or heart disease needs the prayers of the intercessor! Victory, Christian is only a prayer away! While the battle rages on, do not allow yourself to become weary of standing by faith. If you fatigue carrying the burden alone, invite fellow believers to aid you in lifting up the battle and believing with you that the Lord will provide!
