The Truth May not be Popular But it Will…
Scripture Reference 1 Corinthians 2 : 4-5
4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
1Kings 18: 22 Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23 Get two bulls for us. Let Baal’s prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire—he is God.”
Then all the people said, “What you say is good.”
Life Lesson: At times you will feel completely outnumbered and alone as you stand by faith, but you are never alone! God has your back! God has many faithful believers who are standing for their faith just as you are and you are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who have also lived by faith and now stand in the presence of God!
Elijah believed he stood alone outnumbered by the 450 false prophets of baal. By the way, Elijah took this stand against the false prophets of the Canaanites because they were worshipping false gods and leading God’s people into a lie! Elijah was not a hate monger as we understand that term today. He was no bigot, he was faithful to God, the One True God who alone is the Author of our salvation! Many have stood resolute in their faith, even willing to die rather than compromise their faith with the false religions of the day. Men and women died rather than renounce Jesus and instead confess Caesar as god. There is far more at stake in the matter of faith than we often times understand.
I have a nephew who goes into school settings and stands for his faith in Jesus Christ. I am certain that at times he feels as though he is alone in his belief in God. But he is never alone! And through his messages, young men and women are hearing the truth and it is by hearing the truth that faith is inspired and people come to faith in Jesus Christ!
Elijah had it right in his challenge to the people. Faith in God is not based in superstition, or hearsay, or religious dogma; it based on the concrete evidence that God has made clear to all people through His Created universe. The people of God had given in to the superstitious, cultic, religious practices of the Canaanites that were based on nothing more than hearsay. Elijah’s faith and our faith is based on the solid bedrock foundation of Christ, who is the Risen Savior!
