Scripture: Luke 1: 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”
38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Meditation: The promises of God are fulfilled through the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. The favor the Lord gave to Mary was also God’s favor for all humanity. Through the miraculous conception of Jesus Christ, God has made the impossible, possible!
– Many of us are waiting patiently for the realization of the promises of God in our lives. Like Mary, we may be completely unaware of what God has been doing to not only fulfill His promises but to also include us in the fulfillment of those promises. Like Mary, we might not understand that we have been highly favored and blessed. Gideon did not comprehend his blessed position with God as he cowered in winepress threshing wheat, yet the angel Gabriel told him, Judges 6: 12 … “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
– The fact that God is with us, Immanuel is a highly exalted position! God told Moses, “I will be with you”, Exodus 3:12, to assuage his objections to deliver God’s message to Pharaoh. The New Testament informs us that, Romans 8:31 “If God is for us, who can be against us”!? This is not rhetorical; it emphasizes our exalted position in Christ Jesus! See also Eph. 2:6
– If you are in Christ Jesus today, you are highly favored and blessed of God! The Incarnation was not the work of man, it was the divine act of God as is also our salvation, John 1: 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” No word of God will ever fail! Nothing is impossible with God! Although many of us struggle to comprehend how God can save us, like Mary we have been given the Truth and therefore we must declare, “I am the Lord’s servant, may it be unto me according to your word”! Fear not! The Lord is with you! You have been given great favor from God through faith in Jesus Christ!
